So far, Taiwan sort of feels like a mix between China and Japan, which works well for me because they are two countries that I love. Thanks for the replies, have decided to go late October/early November. We're thinking of going Melbourne to Guangzhou, then to Beijing for a few days, then Taipei, then home via Guangzhou.
The local tour operator will pick up and drop off at your hotel. The guide is very friendly and spoke English well, including Japanese. It would have been nicer to extend the stay in the hot springs hotels longer (2 nights vs. Caleb was both knowledgeable and generous in sharing history and culture of the locations we visited. We talked at the outset about our interests and he incorporated all of those into the day trip. Wonderful English speaker , great sense of humour and someone who made our tour of Taipei memorable .
Perfect if you only have 1 night to see as much as possible and take in some beautiful sights of Taipei as well as some great facts and history!! My guide Lawson was fantastic and he's very passionate about showing you the best that Taipei has to offer. By choice we traveled north to see the Oceanside, waterfalls, cat village and a coal town, but still had time for traditional sites in Taipei. After mostly being in Taipei our guide Roger drive us to the Geo Park, the golden waterfall, jiufen, shifen waterfall and elephant mountain.
Other notable wonders include the hot saltwater springs as well as the coastline's coral reefs that offer a fascinating experience to scuba divers and snorkelers. On the historical side of it, Green Island is home to the remains of a former prison of the Chinese communist regime as well as indigenous houses. For spectacular views, follow a short path that closely resembles the Great Wall, which leads to a lookout point. Take off to the Dragon & Tiger Pagodas also known as a temple situated in the Lotus Lake. Walk around in the heat – mid thirties – including up the pagoda to get good shots of the lake and various temples and shrines surrounding it.
Showers at TPE T2 – I didn't go about looking for the one/s at Arrival. But the one at Departure is only accessible after clearing immigration formalities. It is clean, spacious, shower gel and shampoo supplied, there is a small bench to place your belongings, more than ample room to change and move around, and a vanity mirror with hair dryer. Lounge there too but way more restaurants than you can count. Come out and turn right and you will see all 3 shops in one location, all you need is your passport. But no not necessary just convenient, can cover more, the np is large.

The founder George Mackay named the school Oxford College as a gesture of thanks to its benefactors. The school marked the beginning of general education curricula in Taiwan and is today Taiwan’s oldest institution of higher learning. We make our way back towards our home territory stopping at the National Palace Museum. This museum has a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese imperial artifacts and artworks. It’s one of the largest of its type in the world.
I thought it was awesome – I really like Taiwan. It's one of the few places I've visited where I've thought that I could live in the future, and I don't even speak any Taiwanese or Mandarin... The answers provided below are based on answers previously given by the tour provider to customers’ questions. We had a great time - lovely scenery and a chance to see the countryside outside of Taipei. Brilliant tour for anyone with limited time to see some of Taipei's attractions. One of the largest zoos in Asia, Taipei Zoo—also known as Muzha Zoo—features a wide variety of animals from around the world and those that are native to Taiwan.
I think Daan Forest Park has like a playground kid friendly place to play, same with the other park (2/28 Peace Park) i think. I'm pretty used to riding in crazy traffic, 1h is no big deal, as I'd like to chance to take the back roads and stop whoever I want, which isn't something I can do with public transport. I think we spent 3 hours or so in Jiufen and that was enough for us. It's an awesome place, we focused on trying all the food and didn't do a whole lot of shopping really .. Walked through the quieter streets, went to the teahouse... Maybe try and keep your time in Taipei minimal this time since you've already been before.
I have licences for motorbikes, but not an IDP. Lol uhhh Taiwan is pretty much all Mandarin speaking but don't worry you can still communicate....i'd probably hazard a guess that Japan is more English friendly especially at those kind of tourist attractions. Cheaper and you get to see more if you're a tourist.

Cathay pacific has frequent flights through hong kong and the newer reroutes through mainland china is competitive, china southern is not bad. Eva air is the best of taiwan airlines but nothing special. The flag carrier of Taiwan, China airlines, is best avoided in my opinion. Taipei is not an especially expensive city to visit, especially compared to other East Asian hubs like Tokyo, Shanghai, Singapore, or Seoul. Most museums and historical landmarks have cost-effective rates, and the city's street food options, casual eateries, and night markets offer wallet-friendly dining choices. Park City Hotel-Hualien Vacation is located in Hualien City center, it takes just 10 minutes to drive to railway station.
